Morgan Heritage Announces North American Concert Tour

June 21, 2008

One of the most influential reggae bands of today, Morgan Heritage, have announced a concert tour in support of their 10th album, MISSION IN PROGRESS. The tour will kick off on June 18th in Los Angeles, CA.

Renowned worldwide for their riveting live shows from the reggae circuit to the WARPed Tour, Morgan Heritage is sure to bring the power of their stage performance to the cities they plan to hit throughout both the United States and Canada. Their US tour comes on the heels of the group’s massively successful tour of Africa, where they were welcomed by the President of Gambia and played to crowds of 40,000 people in Senegal.

Produced by Morgan Heritage (with a few songs helmed by DJ Flava, Shane Brown and Stephen McGregor son of reggae singer Freddy McGregor), MISSION IN PROGRESS lyrically finds the group continuing their quest to bolster their love for reggae music through romantic, street-wise and conscious songs built on slabs of spirituality. The album was released in April of this year and reached #1 on Billboard Magazine’s Top Reggae Albums Chart—a career first for the band. Musically, MISSION IN PROGRESS is the realization of Morgan Heritage’s “ROCKAZ” concept: reggae music with a rock edge. The band has been in rehearsal for the last month putting together a new show for their "The Mission In Progress World Tour" to present the "Rockaz Music" sound to a new generation.

Comprised of five offspring of reggae veteran Denroy Morgan, Morgan Heritage is comprised of vocalist/keyboardist Una, vocalist Peter ("Jahpetes"), keyboardist/vocalist Roy ("Gramps"), rhythm guitarist Nakhamyah ("Lukes") and vocalist/MC/percussionist Memmalatel ("Mr. Mojo"). Born in Brooklyn's tough Bushwick neighborhood, the band's five members were raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, and spent their summer vacations back in New York, where they returned after high school. Growing up with intensive vocal and instrumental training, the Morgan children were exposed to everything from the godfathers of roots reggae to top 40 American radio. The band was signed to MCA Records in the 90's, triggering one of the most impressive streaks in modern-day reggae. In a dozen years, the band has racked up several hits in Jamaica and abroad, thanks in part to collaborations with highly respected Jamaican producers, such as Lloyd "King Jammy" James and Bobby Digital.
