Kingston, Jamaica -- Another milestone reached for Dancehall artiste Bramma who copped his first ever music award, in the category of “Best Reggae Song” at the 6th annual Underground Music Awards (UMA) in Bermuda. In our recent press release ‘Bramma nominated for an Award in Bermuda!’ NIP highlighted the nomination providing a link to view the categories at http://thaunderground.net/thaunderground.net-Awards-%20nominees.html.The single that gets the attention of the Bermudian market entitled World Gone Mad, is collaboration with Bermudian artiste Slanger and has been a favourite for months.
Bramma who is elated about this achievement had this to say, “its such a good feeling to be recognized for your work, I often wondered what it must feel like for the many artistes who achieved this honour, now there’s no need to wonder no more.’ However, the artiste was quick to point out that such a feeling is addictive which means that he must continue in earnest.Bramma met Slanger about 3 years ago whilst he (Slanger) was imprisoned via the internet on myspace. From reasoning, Slanger found a tower of strength from the positive vibes Bramma brought to their conversation he said, ‘I consider Bramma to be a real person because he always responded. That gave me great inspiration and confidence that an actual collaboration could and would manifest”.
In 2009 Slanger recorded his part in Bermuda then sent the riddim and vocals to Bramma in Jamaica. The riddim was actually produced in Jamaica, and the concept came from listening and vibing it. World Gone Mad did well in the streets of Bermuda on its release receive much attention from Bermudian radio. It was submitted to the UnderGround Radio Show which plays on Power 95 FM also streaming live via internet every Sunday afternoon. This then lead to the song being nominated for Best Reggae Song as The UnderGround host the music awards every year for primarily unsigned local and overseas artists.
As for Slanger, ‘it was overwhelming and a joy to have won the award because going up against Tabia who hails from St. Vincent would be strong competition. She also has a song with Dancehall King Beenie Man (not nominated because it was just released). The crowd was very supportive as I accepted the award with some knowing my past. So for that, I feel extremely humbled. I also have to thank Bramma for being a part of this project and forming a vital musical link, because in the end - it's for the masses and the good of the music”.
